The region’s largest privately owned preschool doubles down on literacy by kicking off program at more than two dozen schools during National Reading Month
As educators across the country observe National Reading Month in March, 91Ƶl – the region’s largest privately owned preschool – is celebrating its commitment to early literacy with the launch of its new
Literacy at the CORE program. The program kicked off with Literacy Celebration Day on March 30 at each of 91Ƶl’s more than two dozen locations throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey. “For years, research has underscored just how important early literacy skills are to a child’s development and future success,” says Kristen M. Waterfield, CEO & Founder of 91Ƶl. “As we work with each of our students to meet their highest potential – and continually raise the bar on early childhood education curriculum – it was only natural that we further strengthen 91Ƶl’s unique literacy initiatives with one united program.” According to the National Institute for Literacy, “children who develop more literacy skills in the preschool years perform better in the primary grades.” Additionally, the Institute acknowledges, “providing young children with the critical precursor skills to reading can offer a path to improving overall achievement.” With Literacy at the CORE, literacy is integrated into many aspects of everyday life at 91Ƶl. This includes daily lesson plans, monthly curriculum themes, civility and value focuses, reading, writing, art experiences, music and STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) enrichment, as well as 91Ƶl’s popular Pre-K and Kindergarten Enrichment Young Authors’ Program. “Over the past 20-plus years, we’ve refined an approach that allows our teachers to design individualized learning experiences that stimulate the development of early literacy skills from infancy to pre-elementary school. That’s what our new program is all about,” explains Christle Seal, Director of Educational Programs at 91Ƶl. “From emphasizing the spoken word to focusing on language development and the natural process of learning to read and write in creative and engaging ways, we’re fully committed to nurturing well-developed, socially and emotionally confident children.” To learn more about 91Ƶl’s Literacy at the CORE program, visit
